GRIPonMASH

Global Research Initiative for Patients screening on Metabolic dysfunction-Associated Steato – Hepatitis is an ambitious study of a disease affecting an estimated 30% of the World’s population: the steatotic (or fatty) liver. This research is sponsored by the Innovative Health Initiative Joint Undertaking, where the EU’s Horizon Europe programme has partenered with several distinguished research, pharmaceutical, IT and financial institutions in Europe.

Around ten thousand subjects will be recruited, in at least 10 EU centers. MERIC is the Romanian partner and will recruit 1000 Romanian patients in Sacele.

People enrolled in the study will receive advice on adequate lifestyle and nutrition, meant to cure the fatty liver or reduce the risk of progression to the more severe stages.

ONCODIR

This study is funded by the Horizon Program of the EU. Its purpose is to create and test a set of tools to support evidence-based participatory decision making for colon cancer prevention through implementation research.

MERIC will run a pilot study on a group of citizens at risk for colon cancer, in Romania. Data will be collected from participants via questionnaires administered through an application on their mobile phones. The information obtained will allow the automatic assessment of the participant’s risk to develop a cancer of the colon. Concomitantly, the application will send to the citizen enrolled, nutrition and lifestyle recommendations meant to reduce their risk for cancer.

Information will also be sent to the patients’ family practitioner, where a software program will identify the pattern of risk factors (nature of risk factors and severity) in the group studied. At the same time, when necessary, the doctor will personalize and transmit the recommendations given to each participant, according to the detailed information received, and using a database of published guidelines. Further, the doctor may formulate recommendations or suggestions for policy-makers.

EUonQoL

Funded by The European Union’s Horizon Europe Program, this study developed The European Oncology Quality of Life Toolkit, a patient-centered, unified tool to assess the quality of life of cancer patients and survivors. The tool consists of a set of questionnaires, specifically designed for self-assessment, at various phases of the disease. After validation on different sets of patients, in different countries, the EUonQoL-Kit will be used in future periodic surveys to evaluate the impact of policy interventions.

MERIC represented Romania and performed the study in order to validate the tool at The Bucharest Oncologic Institute Alexandru Trestioreanu.

DESIPOC

This project is developing a sustained European Initiative for monitoring and sharing practices in Psychosocial Oncology Care provision and is part of the HORIZON EUROPE programme. Organizations from Cyprus, Greece, Spain, Belgium and Romania (MERIC) are contributing to its implementation.

An accessible online platform will be developed, that facilitates coordination among EU Member States in implementing the EU Mission on Cancer priorities. The project focuses on preventing avoidable mental health deterioration through enhanced screening methods, optimizing diagnostics and treatment for tailored patient care, and supporting quality of life through personalized interventions. The platform will feature a virtual observatory as a knowledge hub to collect and share best practices, guidelines, and resources for psychosocial oncology.
